Can’t think that far ahead with the hoagies flying

My husband was going over the calendar for Saturday (today’s Tuesday), and I just had to stop him. I told him that was too far away for me to think about, and I was just trying to get through all of the things for tonight. He knows, of course, the drill and does the same thing to me. We just take it one day at a time and can’t think too far out as there always seems to be so much to process in the present. Thank goodness soccer was cancelled because of weather, or we would have been out after 9:00. Does that sound selfish? Regardless, the kids didn’t get into their beds until 10:00 because of homework for co-op tomorrow. I had picked up dinner at the local grocery store. Hoagies, chicken fingers, and sushi. I may have been tossing the hoagies at them like a football because we were in such a rush to get them to bed.
Now, I must begin prepping myself for tomorrow: uniforms, lunches, teaching materials. I really need to wash my hair. It’s looking rough from sweating at the gym-kind of gross..
Will likely see the back of my eyelids around 1:00 a.m., but who knows.

Christmas consumption

For many reasons I was behind in prepping for the holiday season.  Hubby went out after our candlelight service to finish up shopping.  He left the store as they were closing.  I didn’t even send out Christmas cards this year as I simply ran out of time to do so.  So, I’ve been working on New Year’s cards tonight.  This event will likely become a tradition for me.  To top that, I gave the kids their Advent calendars on December 23rd!  Of course, they loved it because they thought they could eat 23 pieces of candy in one sitting!  No, I didn’t let them, but they probably could have twisted my arm to do so. It just seems that I haven’t had my Christmas act together this year. However, I have been cooking for the past 2 days, and oddly enough, everything turned out really great.  Unfortunately, the kids don’t really care for the traditional holiday meals such as sweet potato casserole and cranberry salad so we have many leftovers.  Will need to hit the gym again soon..

We finished up academics a few days ago before breaking for the Christmas holiday.  I plan to take maybe 2 or 3 more days away from the schoolroom so that we can regroup around the house, and the kids can enjoy their friends and new toys.  I’ll let the pictures say the rest.  Happy holidays to you and yours!

What is our goal? To improve test scores or to create self-sufficent thinkers?-NY Times article

Uggh….Reading an article today in the NY Times regarding some charter schools increasing their academic calendar-a heated debate among many.  What struck me in the article was the statement of “schools face increasing pressure to improve student test scores.”  It’s awful that this is how some school systems are operating.  We are putting more emphasis on producing test-taking robots than analytical thinkers who love learning..
