Well, you are getting older..

I finally made it to the gym this evening after not working out for several days. It felt good to get back into the swing, but I knew I wasn’t operating at a hundred percent so I took it kind of slow. Still, I managed to do an hour of a cardio class and then an hour of yoga with my girlfriend. Yoga was awesome, by the way. Great mommy class. If my gym offered a class where you could go and take a mat and just sleep for an hour while the instructor sprayed some fragrance into the air periodically, I would so be there. Honey, I’m going to “gym class”.  Anyway, I’ll see how my body fares tomorrow. My muscles will likely be screaming at me.

I was laughing at my mom a bit. She had sent me an email this morning telling me to take better care of myself since I was getting older. Her comment was made out of maternal love, but it was comical to hear. She wants me to see a doctor-ha! Mom, I am a doctor, remember? 🙂 Well, I guess she’s right. I’m not getting any younger, but I’m not one to drink that juice. It seems that if you eventually adopt that line of thinking, then you’re less likely to really take care of yourself. No, I’ll keep trying to do better than the teenage girls in my kickboxing class, and I’m okay with possibly having to work harder than they do. But I’m not taking the easy road.

What does this have to do with homeschooling? I am off-topic just a bit but then again maybe not. I’ve realized over these last few days how much my physical state affects my “classroom”, so if I need to do 2 hours of exercise instead of one to be at optimum health, so be it. And I’m trying to get more rest:)
Academics today included our usual. I finished math lessons with my sixth grader around 10:00 tonight after returning home from the gym.

A couple of things running through my brain:
Foreign language-I tried something new today with French. I played the audio recordings of our French computer program (the Learnables) during breakfast and lunch. This particular program emphasizes just listening to the words, not speaking or repeating. I don’t see us taking on an exchange student at present. Immersion is really the way to go, but what do I do in the interim? So, I’ll see how listening to the Learnables helps if at all.
I’ve also been reading about the Kodaly methodology regarding music training. Waiting to receive some books and CDs from the library on his philosophy.
Here’s to getting more sleep since it’s now 2 a.m.

Forgot DST-I was so mad!!

I was so annoyed at myself today. We made it church only to quickly discover that we’d forgotten to set our clocks for DST-ugh..I sooooo could have used that extra sleep.
Busy weekend as usual. Lots of trick-or-treaters and friends at my house last night. Where does the weekend go?
I’m lesson planning at midnight while drinking some hot green tea. Working again on my kids’ book lists making sure they meet their reading goals for the year. I just finished reading a biography on Marie Curie-what an amazing woman of science she was. We’ll be discussing her life and contributions to science at co-op this week.
Must sleep…Groundhog Day approaches. Can you hear the circus music?
