Do ballerinas rule the world?

My daughter performs in the local production of “The Nutcracker” this weekend.  She has really enjoyed practicing her clown part and will soon enjoy performing for an audience.  It’s been a wonderful thing to watch as a mother.  She has recently told me that she  wants to dance even more than what she’s already committed to during the week, and for a fleeting moment my mind had visions of her becoming some famous dancer one day.  Then, my thoughts started asking whether that would be an ideal career choice for her, the abuse to her body, the endless hours of practice, the rejection, the salary, etc.  These kinds of things I think about all of the time with all of my children.  I guess it’s just part of being a parent.  The future will really boil down to what they find interesting and if they have genuine gifts and talents in those areas. Who knows..Wish I had a crystal ball sometimes.

Black Friday/Gray Thursday

Exercised this morning with my talented niece and sister. Afterwards, we took the kids to see “Wreck-It Ralph” at the theater. It’s a cute movie, although admittedly I slept through several parts of it.
Tonight, I’m out with my mother, sister, and niece to hit the holiday sales. Drinking caffeine as it appears it will be a long and eventful evening sure to bring some laughs. I do not do well with these scenarios. The madness overwhelms me, and I can’t process good deals from bad ones. I do much better in a small, boutique-type environment, but it’s all about being with family right now. I haven’t even started Christmas shopping. I’ll get serious about it soon and buy presents, but I’d much rather spend money on travel and experiences versus things. My kids, being kids, don’t really grasp that so we’ll see how it goes.

Using everyday life to keep tone

Our schedule is packed with lots of activities this year, and they seem to keep multiplying as the kids get older. These activities affect my gym time, but I’m trying hard to stay active.
One thing I do is walk on my toes around the house. I do this when I’m teaching, when I’m cooking (rare), when I’m getting ready in the morning, etc. I’m hoping these little things will help in the maintenance of my stamina when I can’t get to the gym.  It also makes me feel like a ballerina:)
