A lovely everything

Our day began with my daughter finding ants in our room, so we had to pack up our bags and relocate to another room-ugh. Great start..
We had brunch at Denny’s. I tried to keep the menu as healthy as possible by ordering veggie/high protein omelets and fresh fruit, but man alive they have really good pancakes.
I quickly dressed us for the afternoon wedding. The church was lovely, the ceremony was beautiful, gorgeous bride and groom, and the reception was a blast. Good fun with great people. I’ll let the pictures tell the rest. It’s 2:00 a.m., and I’ve got to drive a long trip today..

Brutal traffic

My seven hour drive turned into close to a nine hour drive today because of D.C. traffic on 95-ugh.. Always fun, especially when you are driving with three young kids, and no other adults. The kids did really well, however. I can thank Scooby Doo for that. They watched several movies including the classic Scooby Doo. The word “zoinks!” kept running through my head tonight.
One interesting highlight from today’s road trip was my less than pleasant bathroom stop. I had consumed a combination of coffee and water this morning when we first began our trip to help wake me up. A couple of hours into our journey my bladder decided it needed to be emptied right then, so I had to quickly locate a restroom. I finally found an exit that had an Exxon station. I blew into the parking lot like I was a Dukes of Hazzard driver and dragged the kids inside quickly because I was in so much pain. The station was one of those tiny places, so I was immediately concerned that I’d be out of luck to find a toilet. At that point I felt like I might pop from the pressure. When I asked the attendant if they had a bathroom with the anxiety showing across my face, she waved at me to move the rack of packaged sunflower seeds over to reveal the hidden bathroom door. You can imagine how relieved I was to see that bathroom. It was a single stall, so the four of us went in together. Normally, I let the kids use the bathroom first, but this time I had to go first. After everyone had had a turn, we exited the tiny facility, put the sunflower rack back in place, and I preceded to buy lollipops from the attendant because I felt obligated to repay her. Of course, upon check-out, I felt the urge to urinate again so the four of us went back into the single toilet room so that I could empty my bladder again! Upon completion, we moved the sunflower rack back in place. Seriously…
Note to self-not a good idea to drink coffee and water on a long road trip!
You get to think quite a bit when you’re stuck driving for long periods. One thing I decided for the upcoming school year was to not participate in a local coding class. I think it will be a fine class, but I’ve decided at least for this year to not commit to so many things outside of our home. I know I was spread too thin this past year with our outside activities, so I’d like to not repeat that again. The only thing besides sports that I’ve signed us up for is the FLL club and. Jr FLL club. I’ll have to see if this is a better plan for us. There is always so much adjusting along this road, and every year is different with a new set of challenges.
Off to sleep.. The children have finally collapsed into their hotel beds, and so am I.
Tomorrow-shopping, swimming at the hotel, and a rehearsal dinner featuring a pig roast. My youngest son may provide some of the entertainment. He told a man in the elevator tonight that he wanted to eat dinner with him because he was carrying a bag of burgers that smelled good. This was after he was doing Yoga in McDonalds. Help me..

Looking to do the R’s

I may be off-line for a few days. Sometimes, it’s good to take a break from your current reality if you can to regroup, refocus, reevaluate, and refresh! Those important R’s, as I like to call them, are a must. Hubby and I will be taking some time away to celebrate our 20 years of marriage-holy cow! Yes, apparently we are that old. We are grateful that Grandma and Grandpa are available and willing to watch the crew. I’ll be leaving an abbreviated academic schedule of sorts for the kids to do once we depart. I’m fortunate that my mother-in-law is a former fifth grade teacher, so she’s more than capable of “holding school”. Of course, if they decide to just play games and eat good food, that’ll be fine, too. Just having quality family time is a priority in itself.
Will reconnect again soon once the R’s have taken place:)

Atoms and anniversaries

In the midst of our Griswolds-type daily beach trips, we held a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party this evening for my in-laws. What an accomplish for them.
Received more books from Calvert so more studying for me!
Staying up late again planning out the chemistry class I’ll be teaching for our co-op this fall. The experiments should prove entertaining for the students (I hope)..
