Good stuff to watch..

I wonder if Peter Thiel could create the “40ish under 40” group as well. You know, the group for 40 year-old moms who have dreams, too but are pushing those temporarily aside to raise a family:)

Maybe he could fund my “Dr. Joy” idea? 🙂

Researching curricula while on va-ca

I’ve spent the late evening hours researching and comparing curricula. I’ve mentioned before that I use Calvert’s material as my skeleton, but I tweak things here and there, add to, delete, etc trying to individualize each child’s studies. Just ordered many new books and had them sent to our realtor. Sounds like a fun vacation, right?
Actually, it is except for when my kids complain that I’m making them do schoolwork at the beach!

Teach your child a handicraft

Charlotte Mason advocated the use of handicrafts in a child’s education. The handicraft could include anything from looming to chores to letter-making.
My sister-in-law taught my daughter how to make a beaded bracelet and necklace tonight.
Several elite private schools that I’ve researched incorporate such handicrafts into their curricula.

Nature study-watching Loggerhead turtles hatching on the beach

We watched 31 loggerhead turtles hatch tonight. Our island has a very active turtle patrol, and the volunteers are quite serious about what they do. Interesting to read about why the turtles are endangered-human interference as you might have guessed..
