“What most schools don’t teach”…You-tube video

Link sent to me by a girlfriend.  It’s about 10 minutes in length.  I”m a bit obsessed at the moment with learning more about coding and how to do it, so this was an interesting video to watch.I’ve had several people tell me that it’s useless to learn a particular language because of the fleeting nature and evolving field of computer science. Not so sure I agree on this one.  Seems like if you can keep teaching all of your core academic subjects well, and are still able to squeeze these kinds of activities into your child’s world, then such experiences would only be beneficial.

I may see if I can move my family and me into the office that has the free food.  That way, I wouldn’t have to cook anymore!

Life just keeps happening around you

The pace seems to be non-stop at our house right now. Late Thursday night after we put the kids to bed around ten I noticed that the toilet wasn’t flushing well. My husband tried plunging it. Well, one step led to another that eventually found us in the basement. The backed up sewage started leaking out of one of the pipes. It was disgusting! To make matters worse, we could not shower afterwards because we didn’t want to run the water until we knew what the problem was. I think we finally got to bed about 1 in the morning. Thankfully, one of our neighbors owns a septic system company, so he was able to drain the tanks the next day. Apparently flushing paper towels and superheroes down your toilet is not a good idea. This all occurred while I was trying to teach things like order of operations and run-on sentences! No, life does not pause for you to homeschool, although the kids loved watching the men work. I guess homeschooling is really more about including all aspects of life, not just the academics. Can I count this as a science skill lab?!

How will technology change the traditional model of education?

Cyberspace is changing the how, when, and where of education for our kids.  The alteration will undoubtedly revise the traditional model of education, possibly even the existence of universities and teachers as how we knew them when we were growing up.  For homeschoolers, the development is an exciting one because it offers an endless array of possibilities for our kids in what they’re exposed to.  I’m constantly monitoring the trend to see how this will affect us in our home studies.  Who knows what this will look like 10 years from now?
