Blepharoplasty for homeschoolers

So many businesses these days offer homeschool discounts. How nice it would be if plastic surgeons would offer eye and face lifts at a discounted price for homeschoolers, really for any teacher. I was looking through some photos and noticing how tired I look around my eyes. Granted, I am actually tired, but I don’t think I feel as tired as I look. So, I could go for a blepharoplasty. I’ve never had Botox injections, although I know many people who have. I just can’t see myself having to keep up with the maintenance, and truthfully, I don’t need paralysis of my face. I need to have my skin stretched and the excess cut off. So, I’m thinking I’ll try to get a homeschooling discount from a plastic surgeon sometime. Maybe he would have some sympathy for me?-ha! Yes, it’s superficial, but I admittedly hope to do this one day.
Speaking of sympathy, I had a long, long day in the books with the kids. We started around 9 a.m. and ended around 10:30 tonight. There was a break this evening from 6:00-9:00, but math problems weren’t finished until after 10:00. During the break, my daughter and I went shopping for birthday happies for my son. We have the family celebration coming up, so I needed to buy a few things.
It’s bedtime now, but what I should do is go visit the elliptical. Maybe I’ll do a little pilates before retiring. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could lengthen your skin like you can lengthen your muscles? Middle age..

A plethora of thoughts

I have so many rambling thoughts in my head that at times it’s challenging to write them all down in a coherent fashion.
Some highlights of the day:
My second son cooked breakfast burritos for everyone this morning while he wore his apron from Paris. Cooking is a great activity for him to do because of the way that he is wired.
Audio books-I spent a little bit of time trying to download free audio books from our library. Apparently, our system is so old that I have to wait a few days after I request them before I can actually download the recordings. So, I went onto a website called “StoryNory” that lets you listen to their featured recordings. I want to get back into the habit of using audio books to help with exposing the kids to quality literature. This is also a great activity that frees me up to do something else while they’re listening.
Maker magazine- I placed a subscription for the digital edition. I’m bummed we could not make the recent fair in Brooklyn.
Math-I repeatedly am frustrated with the way math texts are written. For example, the sixth grade MIF book just doesn’t connect all of the dots for you in the materials which leaves me with having to infer certain things. I googled a random site on GCF/LCM and went, “Oh, now that’s how it should be explained!” This math site explained the topic in a short and sweet fashion and to the point making it easier to absorb. grrrrrr…wasting time….
I was up with my oldest until 11:00 p.m. working on his writing skills. Need more hours.
See what I mean? Plethora..

Starting the day off with a flat tire

This is how my morning began…

So I’m sitting on the side of the road waiting for what sounds like an eighteen year old to come change my tire. No, I’m not going to attempt it..
While I wait, I’ve got my thoughts on the upcoming fall semester and studies both at home and in our homeschool cooperative. We are having to make some sort-of last minute changes to teacher positions in our co-op so I’m working on that. I was told during my years as a USAF flight doc that a key to airpower is flexibility. Goodness knows, it’s certainly wise to be flexible while homeschooling. Minimizes the stress level.
I hope my little helper comes soon to change my tire. I’m starving!

Memorial Day Weekend

It’s so great to see people out with their patriotic pride taking time out to reflect on those who’ve served and died for this country.

Ran a 5K this morning in honor of our soldiers.  Just found out by my girlfriend that I placed second in my age group-what?  Makes me feel better.. So many people kept passing me so I thought I did horribly!  Apparently, I won a medal, but I wasn’t there to receive it because I was already at Dunkin Donuts-ha!!

Is your homeschool kid smarter than you?

I hope so, for me.  My 10 year old son was reading the latest issue of “Fortune” magazine that just came in the mail.  He was telling me how much we are spending on our nation’s defense currently.  A huge amount by the way!
